New Spring Jewelry from Médecine Douce

Our favorite Parisian costume jewelry from Médecine Douce is tops again this spring. Red and Black are the signature colors of the fun Medals Necklace and adorable Hawaii Ring. Knots are also hot this season and the Knot Bracelet perfects this trend.

Back by popular demand is the signature vintage-inspired Spiral Necklace, now in
faux pearl or crystal... continuing the antique look, check out the Watch Pendant and Key Pendant - both necklaces are super long and perfect for the layered, bohemian hipster look! We're also loving the Vintage Earrings and Bracelet - so pretty, understated and old school!

About Any New York

The Any New York collection is a modern, innovative and delicate assortment of vermeil jewelry. Unusual techniques and materials set these pieces apart from the rest of the pack, featuring molten clumps of chain, faceted pearls and adjustable styling options.

The talent behind this line is designer Naoyo Terada. Naoyo hails from Nagoya City, Japan but moved to New York City in 1999 to study jewelry design at F.I.T. She launched her brand in 2002 and has quietly accumulated a rabid following of fans who appreciate her unconventional designs. With her sweet manner and petite frame, she defies all expectations with her amazing drive and modern vision.

We met Naoyo a little over a year ago at a trade show and were instantly drawn to her beautiful, artistic designs. Now we're completely in love with her unique and artistic approach to jewelry: from the Giacometti-like effect of how she melts strands of chain together, the sculptural, airy arcs of her earwires... There is much more to her collection than we are showing now, so expect many more innovative pieces to come. We hope you are as blown away with her jewelry as we are!

Our Obsessions: Leather Flower Chain Necklace

We love-love-love this fashion-forward necklace by Parisian costume designer Orner!

Think of it as more like a scarf than a piece of serious jewelry. It makes a bold enough statement on its own, so we would recommend wearing this necklace (pictured here in beige, but equally if not more fabulous in black), with something minimal.

Take a risk and be daring... Fashion should be fun, and this necklace is it!

Our Obsessions: Snowflake Pendant

I have been kind of lazy lately in putting my outfits together and honestly, have not been in a super accessorizing mood in the mornings- but that said, I have found The Snowflake Pendant by Orner to be so versatile! This necklace goes with everything- jeans to dresses and so comfortable to wear. It’s the necklace that is hip enough to add a “little something” to a comfortable yet boring outfit (and we all have at least 2 outfits like that)!

Our Obessions: Lancelot Bracelets & Round Deco Ring

From Kim:

Right now I’m loving the Lancelot bracelets! I couldn’t decide which color to wear the other day so I wore both together on my right wrist and they looked great... I've been wearing them every day now for a week.

Then I decided to change it up a bit (since I love to do that) and wore the black version on my left wrist with my watch. I added the black Round Deco Ring to my right hand and off I went to deal with my daily life! Both the Lancelot Bracelets and the Round Deco Ring have such a great vintage look to them yet they are very modern as well. They pair brilliantly with jeans and also look beautiful dressed up. These pieces look as if they have been a staple in my wardrobe forever- like heirlooms!

Organic Cuff Bracelet by Marjorie Victor

Many of you have already discovered Marjorie Victor and her beautiful, deli
cate, hammered sterling silver and gold fill jewelry.

The Organic Cuff Bracelet (as featured in the November issue of Lucky Magazine) is her newest design and something we have been wearing EVERY DAY for the last 2 weeks now! Light, airy, sculptural and simple, we like it because it gives the impression that you're wearing several bangles - but without the bunching up effect. It's also the perfect bracelet for those of you who have tiny wrists and never wear bracelets because you can't find any that fit - this cuff is flexible and adjustable to fit any size wrist.

We're offering it in two versions: shiny, polished 18K gold plate or sterling silver. You'll note we've added quite a few more items to her collections as well. Check it out!

Introducing Our Obsessions

This is going to be the first of what we will be regularly posting as "Our Obsessions".

You see, we got into this business in the first place because we love jewelry. And obviously, we own most of everything we sell here - because we choose our collections based on our own personal tastes. It's a nice occupational perk!

So, even though we think everything in our store is fabulous, there are some items that we find ourselves wearing more than others - our obsessions. Or, sometimes we discover that pairing this necklace with that other one - and maybe mixing different styles - can change how we feel about a particular piece or even better, our wardrobe choices. The point here is to have fun with jewelry and make it part of your daily dressing process. At best, accessorizing can make an already amazing outfit even better. At the very least, it can spice up an otherwise drab and boring look on those days you don't have the time or energy to dress up (it's raining, laundry day, casual friday, etc.).

Now to the good stuff. First up: the Charleston Sautoir, by Médecine Douce.

Sautoirs are long, rope style necklaces that fall below the waistline and terminate with a tassel, first popularized during the Edwardian era. The Charleston Sautoir is a modern take on this style, with antiqued gold brass beads and chains. Wear it doubled once and long for a chic, minimalist look. You can wrap it around your neck up to 4 times to create a shorter, multi-layered necklace too. The hoops and dangly bits can be moved around to fall to the center or off to the sides for a more assymetrical look.

It's also a great layering piece. We really like the idea of wearing the Charleston Sautoir with another decorative necklace, like a pendant.

We've paired it here with the Snowflake Locket Pendant , also by Médecine Douce.

Pearls of Wisdom

As the October issue of the WWD Accessories Supplement points out, pearls are back and in a big way! Forget Grandma's boring pearl necklace - the modern take on pearls (both real and faux) is to have some fun with them.

mûR's Pearl Loop Necklace takes a decidedly creative approach to this old favorite - a pretty beaded flower motif and and looped pearl strands mixed with a delicate vermeil gold chain creates a multi-layered, feminine look that works well dressed up or down!

Also from mûR, some more whimsical pearl looks can be found in the ever-popular
Petals Pendant and Pearl Rose Ring (also the Pearl Rose Pendant and Necklace).

Check out some of other pearl selections too - Médecine Douce's Art Deco interpretations in faux pearl and antiqued brass include the Deco Round Ring and Deco Flat Ring as well as the fantasic Sun Brooch. And don't forget Orner's über-fashionable Leather Flower Necklace (also
here).

Caring for your Jewelry

To keep your jewelry in the best condition, it's best to clean it on a regular basis. The best solution for most jewelry is to gently wipe/buff it with a soft, damp cloth soaked in lukewarm water with a touch of mild dishwashing detergent. Always be sure to dry your jewelry completely after each cleaning.

Keep your jewelry safe from hairsprays or perfumes and don't expose them to hot steam or hot water. To prevent tangles on necklaces, it's always best to keep the clasps closed when not worn - and we've found that hanging them in jewelry armoires is the most clutter-free way to store them. *the
Laurel Jewelry Armoire (below) from RedEnvelope.com is one we love and use ourselves. PS - it's on sale right now for $49.99 so hurry before they sell out!

Here are a few more tips to keep your jewelry clean, bright and sparkly:

1) Sterling Silver Jewelry: to remove tarnish, use a silver polishing cloth or silver polish from time to time. Be sure to keep silver jewelry dry - water speeds up the tarnishing process - and try to store silver in sealed polybags when not being worn for long periods of time. *If you don't have any cloths or polish handy, dishwashing detergent and/or toothpaste will also do the trick!

2) Vermeil (gold plated) Jewelry: the silver under the gold plate will tarnish after a while, and these blemishes are best removed by using silver dip. One quick dip followed by immediate rinsing in water, then drying with a soft cloth should be enough to clear up the tarnish. If the jewelry needs further cleaning, try re-dipping and repeating the process rather than soaking for prolonged periods in the dip solution. *Be very careful when using dips - they are very strong - and be sure to avoid them entirely if there are pearls or other porous stones in the jewelry (the dip will destroy the shine/lustre of the pearls/stones). If there are pearls or porous stones set in your vermeil jewelry, use a silver polishing cloth and wipe down the metal.

3) Costume Jewelry: simply clean with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. If needed, use a soft toothbrush to scrub out any dirt or residue. Do not soak in water or solutions.
